Bridge Terms

Break a Suit  The first one to lead a suit. When you are Declarer sometimes you must get the opponents to "Break the Suit" so they are leading To your high cards. If you have to break the suit you might have to rely on a finesse and one of the opponents gets to play after you.

Breaking  When a suit is "Breaking" it is splitting evenly. This is good news if it's your suit, bad news if it's their suit.

Bad Break  When a suit splits unfavorably. A 5 card suit that splits 4-1 is one example. This usually happens in your trump suit, right?

That's the Breaks  Too bad partner, "That's the Breaks".
