South doesn't Preempt thinking North must have some points after East Passes. East bids the second time since they Passed the first, West won't get carried away. 5C is good but aggressive. KS is led.

PLAY OF THE HAND

Declarer can see 2 Heart losers for sure so they must play the Clubs and Diamonds correctly. The 3 Clubs will split 2-1 78% of the time. The odds favor the King being guarded.

1)   The KS is won with dummy's Ace.
2)   JC is led tempting East to cover but they don't and West's KC wins.
3)   E/W quickly cash 2 Hearts for down 1.

PLAY OF THE HAND

It might seem just a guess who has the KC, but not with a little clever deducing. If West had the AH and KH they would lead one to take a look at dummy. So East likely has 1 of them.
If East holds the KH and KC they wouldn't Pass West's 1S. So West must have the KC and your only hope is that it's singleton. So when East doesn't cover the JC you rise with the Ace and drop the King.

PLAY OF THE HAND

It's crucial that you listen to the bidding and take it into account during your play. The opponent's bidding provides a wealth of information to you about their point count and suit lengths. Even a Pass is a telling clue.

West starts off by leading a Heart, East plays the 10 and you win with your King. Counting losers you see 1 Club, 1 Diamond, and 2 Hearts (East bid them). How do you avoid going down?
